Creative direction; “x” days of creativity

As part of a self initiated project, I’m going to explore creativity as a whole by creating some sort of piece each day for a certain amount of days (determined by my research) within my surroundings. I will see how things such as sleep effect my creativeness, what articles I read, TV shows I watch, the list is endless. I will keep a research journal offline of my findings and ideas and use this blog as a summary for each individual days piece of creativity once completed, so… Lets see the brief:

Brief

Outline

What is creativity? As designers we are constantly looking for creativity in our outcomes. But what actually is it? Where does it come from? Does it exist around us, in us? What links creativity and inspiration? The environment we live in is vital to how we think and what we do, determined by culture, society and technology. Creativity is essential to be original and get noticed amongst all the communication clutter. It leads to the big idea and interaction with consumers. Some say you have it or you don’t!

Objective

Explore creativity in your surroundings and document your findings both off-line and online.

Brief

Spend “x” amount (determined by research and findings) of days exploring and documenting ‘creativity’ everyday and visually represent, explain, present, shock, humor, anything at the end to the audience of how you perceived creativity in your surroundings. Take notice of where you are, what sparks your imagination and makes you look twice? At least 90 things must be visually documented or created accompanied by caption and research into creativity. Consider:

  • Collaborations, involving other people or artists

  • Colours and typography

  • photography, resolution

  • Number of days of creative outcomes

  • Final presentations such as websites, cards, calendars, what creatively fits the work

  • Substrates used

Proposal

I propose to explore creativity for “x” amount (determined by research and findings) of days starting on the 25th of March and keep a written journal / creative log both offline and online, where appropriate, of my findings and explorations into creativity within my surroundings. Everyday I will photograph, create, document, build things that come from my creativity and explorations into my surroundings, so at the end a visually stimulating outcome titled ‘ “x”  days of creativity ‘ will be formed and hopefully a better understanding of creativity and a wider more appreciated value of my surroundings. The below constraints must be adhered to:

  • At least one piece of creative work or outcome must be accomplished everyday

  • Only one day may be spent on each piece, no going back over any work is allowed

  • Each creative outcome per day must be original

  • The creative outcome must be from your current surroundings

  • Explorations into creativity on other forms and psychological effects need to be researched

  • A documented journal/blog of your findings must be recorded

Target Audience

The target audience is not restricted and may become more clearer as the creative direction and research develops. One must be identified before the final presentation outcome and delivered with that target audience in mind.

Deliverables/Media

The following deliverables are required:

  • One journal / creative log of your findings and explorations into creativity offline.

  • One blog recording your findings into creativity online.

  • Final presentation of creative outcomes and explorations in an appropriate form determined from research and findings.
