So how do you get a job once you graduate?
Theres the obvious email, job sites or attending seminar and advertising fairs amongst many others. Then theres Direct Mail! Im not saying this is the right way by any means or the most creative, but if you find out the the correct name of the art director, creative director, account manager etc of who you want to impress and send it addressed to them specifically, it can be a way of grabbing attention.
So I took a shot, back in June 2009 after graduation, inspired by an Australian art director’s CV I created an A3 teaser with two inlaying cards, initially trying to gain an interview. I think I sent out about 30 and heard back from 2, one of which I gained a job at in London. 2 / 30 isn’t the best odds (you could even class it a fail) but it was worth a shot, most post people receive is junk mail, so my thinking was that a little interactive piece maybe that one letter different.

The front contained basic info with the inlaying card overlapping the bottom two words.

The back followed the same principle, but gave a little insight into who I am.

With the cards removed it revealed more wording and the cards themselves also had information written on the back of them.

Finally the work itself took up a full side of A4 with small numbered captions explaining the sample’s of work.

Hopefully this will give you a little inspiration if your designing your own CV. Who knows the best way to apply for a job? But I reckon just be creative and give anything a go and see what happens.

Totally agree
